Steve is something of a child prodigy. He began studying the piano at the ripe old age of five. He has perfect pitch, which means he can hear a song, tell you what key it's in, then break it down for everyone else to learn without ever touching his piano. This really helps everyone else in the band but it also means he's the musical taskmaster. "Why did you play a D there? There's no D in this song!" But the music sheet says..." "There's no D. Alright??!" Yes Sir.Steve has a deep affinity for the blues and is always looking for new ways to make an old format fresh. His composition Big Hair Woman is a blues progression but in a minor key and full of Latin textures. And he covers Jimmy Witherspoon like nobody else. But he's not one dimensional. Just check out his organ work on the smoking Latin rockers. And rest assured he can entertain in the family parlor playing selections from Chopin.
Steve has a band outside the Neighborhood called The Ides of Soul. These guys are exclusively R&B playing the club circuit. But it's the diversity of The Neighbors that challenges him. Whether it's the styling of the Band, Santana, Van Morrison, Spirit, or Jethro Tull, Steve will capture the essence perfectly.
