(The Groove Master)
Paul is the newest resident of The Neighborhood and moved in "because it's just so much fun!" He is a multi-instrumentalist who began his musical studies with the piano at age eleven. He broadened his perspective with guitar at thirteen and by age nineteen was focused on the electric bass.
He has crisscrossed the Salt Lake music scene for over twenty years providing the foundation for such bands as: Steve Williams and the Dadios, Public Nuisance, and the George Brown Quintet. While studying jazz and music theory with other University of Utah students he met David Weisenberg. Together they played straight jazz standards in the George Brown Quintet. It was through Dave that Paul developed an interest in middle eastern music and instruments. In 1982 he took up theTurkish Saz (instrument) Baglama. Together with the Desert Orchid Dance Company they formed Kairo By Night which celebrates middle eastern music and dance. The two troupes have been popular mainstays of the Salt Lake Arts Festival and First Night celebration for many years.
